Lesson Two: 3D Concepts and Designs
Essential Questions
- What is the difference between 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional?
- How can we build and create a 3D object from a 2D (flat) drawing?
Objectives
- Students will learn the difference between 2D and 3D
- Students will learn to make a 3D object from a 2D (flat) drawing
Teacher Background Concepts
- Computer Aided Design (CAD): When we create an object on the computer in 3D, using CAD software, the (x, y, z) axes are used, to demonstrate the position of an object in 3D space.
- 2 Dimensional: Refers to a flat representation or drawing with only the two dimensions: width and height, and no thickness (or depth).
- 3 Dimensional: An object that has height (length), width and depth (thickness). It projects out into space, using 3 Dimensions. In CAD, the (x, y, z) axes are commonly used to represent 3 Dimensional objects.
